Baroness Manzila Pola Uddin
Baroness Manzila Pola Uddin is a trailblazer in British politics, who made history in 1998 as the first Muslim woman appointed to the House of Lords, becoming its youngest female member and the sole Muslim and Asian woman at the time.
Uddin has been long campaigning for the increase of skills of Asian women living in Britain. A dedicated advocate, Baroness Uddin co-founded the Jagonari Centre in 1987, the UK's inaugural purpose-built education and training center for Asian women in Whitechapel, East London.
Her enduring commitment to social justice, women's rights, and minority representation has significantly shaped progressive policies. Known for her intellectual acumen and diplomatic finesse, Baroness Uddin stands as a beacon for inclusivity, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of equality and diversity in the United Kingdom.
